32 YEARS OF THE PEACE AGREEMENTS

10/4/1992 – 10/4/2024

On October 4 and 5, 2024, the “Renascer” project took place in the city of Trento, within the framework of the Peace Conference, celebrating the 32nd anniversary of the Peace Agreements signed on October 4, 1992, in Rome. This initiative was promoted by the Mozambican Community in Italy (CMI) in collaboration with the Mozambican Catholics in Italy association (MOCATI) and the Mozambican Women’s Association in Italy (AMMI).

The objectives of the initiative were:

  • Promote the development of self-awareness and knowledge of others.
  • Increase the capacity for understanding others through greater openness to dialogue and comparison.
  • Spread the culture of peace and justice in alignment with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, particularly with goals 16 and 17 (Peace and Justice, Partnerships for the Implementation of the Goals).
  • Raise awareness of diversity by organizing discussions between young people (national, European, and transnational).
  • Develop forms of collaboration for problem-solving and acquire techniques and procedures for producing concrete actions of solidarity.

This initiative was also an opportunity for the associations to reaffirm, through the diaspora, their determination and commitment to the cause of peace in Mozambique and in the world, through the testimony of the protagonists of the 1992 Rome Peace Agreements.

His Excellency Raúl Domingos, as well as other key figures in the peace negotiation process, were invited as speakers to share their experience of the peace negotiations in Mozambique. Specifically, the Ambassador addressed the topic: The Rome Peace Agreements – The Current Situation and the Perspective of Mozambique in Peacekeeping.

The commemoration also included the presence of His Excellency Santos Álvaro, Ambassador of the Republic of Mozambique to Italy, Deputy Mario Raffaelli, the Representative of the Community of Sant’Egidio, and Representatives of the local communities.

The event allowed for the promotion and dissemination of our culture through moments of music, traditional dances, art, and cuisine.
